January 6-10, 2017 Buckaroon Bay Part one

this is what it looks like with no wind or ripples on the water

walking the beaches and it is 5 o'clock somewhere

a bleeding tooth snail on a mission

and more of them up this dead tree

and the starfish is trying to get back into the water … it was caught on the high water line

when the tide went out

we still have not identified this shell

another house built with electrical outlets but has been abandoned, if only they could

tell us what happened

Chris and Charlie, Wingspread … the tide was coming in and we both

turned off our motors and drifted with the currant, this way we saw more sea turtles

and rays

I think we surprised this guy … he came roaring around a bend

and saw 2 dinghies drifting along … thank goodness he was polite enough to

slow down to pass us …

a sailboat sunk … next time here we are going to snorkel it

the sailboat was in 3 different places .. on the shore .. even some signs of the sails

time to leave Buckaroon Bay for this time … we had a good sail most of the

way back to Marsh Harbour … once we figured out our ETA, it was going to be at sunset, and

we did not favour anchoring in the dark .. so we motored the last 3/4 hr

January 3 - 5, 2017 .. part three Buckaroon Bay, Abaco

this area has about 100 star fish, either red or yellow

the water was so clear, I took this picture from your main boat

the cactus looked out of place in this palm and mangrove area

we took a dinghy ride inside some islands to discover, large ponds, birds and many fish

one of the many sunk or washed to shore boats we encountered

this osprey was not happy that we got so close to her young

here she is dive bombing us and shrieking at a very high pitch.. and yes we obeyed her

and moved on

one of our finds was what we where told was a Mill, what kind of mill we don't know

the roof was made of wood

it was actually very artsy and beautiful in this condition

January 3-5, 2017 Part two aluminum fishing float

look what we found walking the ocean beaches

Fishing float from La Coruna, Spain … the size of a bowling ball

upon googling this we found out ….

the lighthouse on the float is the Tower of Hercules Lighthouse, on both ends

it is the oldest lighthouse in the world, since the late 1st century AD .. Roman times

The tower, built on a 57 metre high rock, rises a further 55 meters of which 34 metres is made of Roman Masonry.   Originally the light was fuelled by wood fire.

our find has these writings, but they are worn

The lighthouse stands, but the Aluminum Smelting business, that made these floats, since 1920-50 has

closed.  We don't know for sure when our float was made, or how long it was afloat before being washed ashore during a storm.

January 3-5, 2017 Moonlight Maid and Snowbird -- part one

my favourite Asian Market gave us some Asian Eggplants, from their

garden .. curry eggplant was on the menu and supper

another nice sunset in Marsh Harbour

we decided to head to Buckaroon Bay for a few nights, but once we got out

into the Sea of Abaco and the 3-4 ft waves on the nose

we decided to head to Hope Town .. and guess who was waiting and watching the sailboat race,

Moonlight Maid and Snowbird

we made our sign to post along with about 100 plus others

1266 miles, as the crow flies  .. this way

we had a great beach walk with Heather and Alan, Moonlight Maid,

and Dave and Jeanne, Snowbird

if could of brought this home with me I would

it is a log that has been eaten away with worms

the local artists saw this up to make picture frames

another discovery is this rode,washed up on shore ... it must of been 3 inches in diameter….

we sure would not want this wrapped around our prop

the next morning we headed off to Buckaroon Bay

and I caught this 13 inch Painted Mackerel

and a few hours later we BBQ it for lunch

a Lily about to bloom

Rowland painting the second coat on the restaurant chairs,

he is a father of 5 and the fisherman on the previous posts, gives him the fish heads and

other parts of the fish that he normally throws back in to sea .. Rowland says that his wife makes

a good fish soup with these parts
