November 16 - 17, 2014 St. Augustine, Florida

I wonder what is behind this name

we decided to sleep in a bit this morning, it was only a 3 hour run to St. Augustine, and we knew that a marathon was happening and the bridge would not open until 11 am, we had made a reservation at the municipal marina for a mooring ball, this is passing one of the ocean inlets

once again we were accomplished with dolphins all around

we arrived about 1/2 hour before the opening, to our surprise the currant was stronger that we anticipated … Jacobs Ladder and At Last was at anchor, on the north side of the bridge, but the marina with the mooring balls we reserved was on the south side of the bridge … we were assigned mooring ball 70, at the very last of the mooring field, so you know what that means …. no wifi

we decided to take the free water taxi to town, it only ran every two hours, from 10 am to 6 pm, it was quite warm when we finally got off the water … these little cars were for rent, along with motor cycles

a nice vintage car in front of an historic hotel

there was lots of sight seeing red trains, running all over the city, we walked

this is the famous St. George Street … no cars are allowed and it and was lined with souvenir shops, restaurants, bakeries, wine tasting bars ….and ran for about 4 city blocks

we came across Ponce de Leon Hotel, which is now the Flagler College … enjoy these pictures, it was very impressive

we also toured the Lightner Museum, which part of it is the City Hall .. all of this was free of charge

then we walked Aviles Street, the oldest in the city

the overhanging veranda was a significant piece of history, just high enough for horse and buggies to pass under

there was a tornado warning out, lucky for us it passed just north, but we did get caught in the torrential rain squall, we were on the water taxi when it hit, this was the 2pm taxi, and we all got completely soaked … what we did was went right to the marina laundry, stripped, dried our clothes in stages, then took the 4pm taxi back to the boat and got soaked again … unfortunately Joe's camera was in his back pack and we forgot to take it out once back at the boat … it is now ruined

another night at the anchorage
