we are Elbow Cay, in Hope Town,
population is estimated at 260
Garbage day is Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8:30 to 9:30, and it is so interesting to see the cruisers head to shore with their garbage.
The main attraction in Hope Town is the 120 ft candy striped lighthouse. The structure was built in 1862 to warn sailors of the nearby reef and is still operating today by a kerosene lamp. There is 101 steps to the top. We will be touring this in a few days.
Joe headed over to Snow Bird and helped Dave with his masthead light and his windlass. Then back to Modaki and Joe hoisted Dave up our mast for our repairs to the anchor light, and retapped our radar reflector and boots onto the shrouds.
I stayed on Modaki and baked a rum pineapple cake, wiped down the inside of the boat with vinegar, refilled our water tanks, sorted out our canned goods, did online banking etc. etc.
Then we went to Hope Town Marina and paid for showers $5.50/each. Then to Snow Bird for sundowners with NEXT CHAPTER, Rei and Kate, they are from Kars, New Brunswick, Canada. We had a great time for sure … 5 hours later we headed back to Modaki.
It rained in the middle of the night and the winds pipped up all night long. We have paid for 4 nights on a mooring ball, to let this next low pass. $20/night
Every morning we listen to the Cruisers Net, at 8:15 on channel 68, for the weather, community events, and open mike ….
We received more sad news from back home my cousin Ken McTeer, from Walkerton, Ontario has passed away, at age 66 .. our thoughts go out to Nina and the boys …
we are so far away and it is not possible to return home and attend the funeral
