we left Pineline Canal, N.C. at 6:20, it was high tide and was a lot easier getting out of this anchorage … it was a good place to stop for the night
once again we passed so many huge homes, all well maintained, with boardwalks to their dock space
this turned out to be the first of about 4 boats we have seen sunk, the next one was a motor boat right at the marina dock, then 2 other sailboats, one in a swamp and another at Charleston
a trailer park right on the river
a view to the ocean, only about 1/2 mile away, there was lots of shoaling in this area and the bouys had been moved about 75 ft inland … this is Shallotte Inlet and we were doing 8.4 knots on one side of the inlet and 4.5 on the other side
there is little man made waterways off the ICW, that have huge homes lining the banks, and each with their own small vessel dock … no sailboats in these areas
I wonder what happens during high winds, with these boats
it was a shock to meet this cruise liner at Little River Inlet, there was 2 other boats ahead of us and they had to back up and move dangerously to the STB side so it could head out the inlet to the sea … also in this area the US Coast Guard tug and barge was moving the red and green bouys
again we are having to keep a good watch out, this is close to low tide and the ICW becomes very shallow and shifting mud bottom
we have been seeing a lot great blue herons, white egrets, bald eagles, shore birds, pelicans
the entrance to a marina that we decided to treat our selves to, it is $1.00 a ft if you are a member of Tow Boat US, and the diesel was only $3.50 a US gal
7 hours and 32 nm ….
so far since Mile 0, we have done 15 lift bridges … 16 fixed bridges and I think 3 locks
Modaki and Snowbird, side by side … I did 3 loads of laundry too …
this is the first paid dock since September 15, at Stamford, C.T.
