at 7am one of the "Rose Buddies", helped us all off the pipes
Snowbird heading out before us
crossing Albemarle Sound … the 14 mile long crossing can be very sloppy because winds from all directions tend to funnel either up or down the long straight sound. Because of its uniformly shallow depth, even a light wind can quickly create rough, confused seas …. another danger on the Sound is the collection of crab trap markers …. Joe on the look out for them, and they are every where, but not as bad as Maine with lobster pot markers … the seas did build with the wind, and then settle down again
the crab fishermen, come right up to your boat, not paying any attention at all
the "rose buddies" mentioned that Blimps are built on the Sound, and low and behold, one appeared just as we were passing by … such neat sighting
one of the remaining hangers … the other was burnt to the ground awhile ago
the remains of the pillars still stood
when you enter the Alligator River, before the bridge, follow the markers, NOT your charts or chart plotter, because they are constantly being moved due to shoaling … this bridge also opens on demand, but if the wind is over 30 knots, it will not open
we finally put the anchor down in a swamp, in the middle of crab pots, after a 9 hour day and 47 nm
this place is so remote that there is no 3G coverage, and this will continue for the next 3 days …
at about 8pm 2 fighter jets flew overhead very low, waking up all the boaters, the noise was unbelievable and they circled us every 3 minutes for the first 20 minutes, then every 5 minutes, after 18 passes, I stopped counting … this was the same night that we found out that the missile crashed over Virginia
