we were up early again and headed out at 7:20, it seems to still be dark until that time … just before we saw this Pirate Tour Boat, we were welcomed to Beaufort by about 20 Bottlenose Dolphins, I'm so surprised that they are this far north
we took this winding channel into Beaufort and was confronted by this lift bridge, we missed seeing it on the chart … I radioed the operator to see what time the bridge opened, he notified us that we were one minute late and would have to wait for another 1/2 hour … %*&#
this area had quite a bit of currant, and shallows all around, plus about 5 fishing boats were anchored, in this area … Snowbird and Modaki, circled and circled and circled for 29 minutes
once finally thru the bridge we came across a lot of larger fishing boats … we found out later that in this area, all the boats were hitting something in the water, and a sand bar was forming … so they sent down a diver, and what he found was …. a jeep, with a skeleton, still slumped against the steering wheel, it was the remains of a guy that went missing about 8 years ago
Beaufort waterfront businesses
there was a great boardwalk, restaurants, antique shops, laundry, gift shops, general store
a short day of travelling, just 3 hours and 16 miles … we needed to find a place to wait out the low that was coming the next day
these are the wild ponies on Carrot Island
this is Taylor Creek, Modaki was offered a private dock, and Snowbird anchored out for one night, then took a dock at the marina, for protection from the storm coming … another pirate boat with the wild ponies behind
