we were off the hook at 6:30 am, Joe pulled all 140ft of chain up …. I just keep saying 'you are keeping in shape", all the fishermen were coming out to fish at the tip of the hook, where the ocean meets the river. The turbulence was fierce, with the tide against us, but we had to leave at this time to get the tide further on down the Jersey Shore
this is some of the cities we passed, can't remember names now
we stayed about 1 1/2 miles off shore, and the water was only 20 feet and 3 miles out it was 25 -30 ft
there was a ocean swell of about 3-4 ft every 8 seconds, and the 10th one was about 6-8 ft.
not that comfortable, the wind shifted to the north and the diesel fumes came into the cockpit …awful
this is Atlantic City at a distance, maybe 10 miles away, we decided to not stop there because we would be coming in at dark, around 9pm, and if we continued we could make Cape May in the dark too. The weather was in our favour, and the wind shifted to the south, and was light.
fishing is big in this area, lots of charter boats every where
getting closer to Atlantic City, this building completely lights up with a constantly changing billboard, we had to use the binoculars to see what it said
Atlantic City looks beautiful all lit up, it is a Casino City, and we heard that they have been hit hard with recession. We actually saw one huge sky scraper not lit up.
from 7pm to arriving at Cape May at 2:30am, we only watched our radar and chart plotter, followed one bouy to another, scanned for towers to confirm our location, we even got the iPad out to make sure we were on track … before dark we added another jug of diesel to the tank
finally we arrived at Cape May, 121 nm …. and 20 hours
I had two naps, one in the day light and one at night.
Joe stayed awake the whole time.
I called Customs when we got in, and she was not impressed on doing the paper work this early in the morning …. We didn't want the warning that our friends on JUMP, got !
