life in Pointe Sapin - a lobster harbour - part two

some pictures of our 4 nights in Pointe Sapin

Corey, one of the fishermen .. off the boat and having something to eat at the Canteen .... where Joe and I went for some fries and fish ... the phone coverage was good here too, but not on the boat ... Joe finally has Rogers coverage ... he did not in all of Quebec ... but my Bell cell phone has worked every where we have been ... something to think about if you are traveling

we had some unsettled weather coming

the boat I was waiting on .....

we bought 3 lobster, at at a cost of $10. or $3.00 per lb. from the captain of the boat, and the buyer cooked it for us .. as we did not have a pot large enough

okay ... this is the two of the three ... we finished them off too fast ... so good fresh, not like we get at home

it was amazing, there is  only a dozen or so gulls in the harbour ... the fishermen kept their boats really clean, everything was washed down with high presser hoses, as they where coming to  the dock and after

by 4pm all boats where in and unloaded, most boats do two trips in with their catch, so the lobster are arriving alive for the processsing plant ... the fuel for the boats per day average $400.00 dollars

it is amazing to watch these captains handle their boats, we just watched and where impressed

when they leave in the dark of 5am, there is a lot of lines to untie

high winds are coming and the harbour master, Donald, gave us a board so we could make an extra fender board, Joe carries with us the portable drill, and every bit size we would ever want .... Joe the "tool man"

there is a lot of hard work done by these fishermen

yesterday 3 lobster was not enough, so we bought 6 today, cost $24.00

we brought them back to the boat in one of our pails, with ice

the harbour master, lent us a pot for cooking the lobster, 3 at a time .. when the pot arrived it was full of fresh veggies out of his garden .. every one is so kind and thoughtful

the next 3 go in for the 15 minutes

okay back to cleaning up the boat ... the only water that entered in our stormy/windy 20 hour voyage, was thru the anchor chain hole .. this is in the area that we keep our veggies and drinks ... we earlier separated this part away from the bilge pump, so we could have dry bilge area ... so we scooped and sponged out 1/2 pail of salted water

the next day Saturday, only about 1/3 of the boats went out to check the traps ... we talked to some when they came back in and they said it was nasty on the water

the night watch woman, said she lives beside the CO-OP grocery store, and her wifi is unlocked, and we could go and sit there .. so we did, but it was too hard to post pictures, so we just did the script

we probably should of bought more lobster on Saturday, cause we did not realize that the fishermen agreement is that no one fishes on Sunday ...
