some pictures of our 4 nights in Pointe Sapin |
most boats are back around 1:30 with the last of their days catch |
this is where the sea bass are caught |
our Canadian flag is fading fast .. not too sure if it is the salt in the air or what |
we had some unsettled weather coming |
a great sunset |
these Black Back Seagulls, where huge ... bigger than the McDonald's ones or Sauble Beach Herring and Ring Bill |
MODAKI, alone at the dock, as all 78 lobster boats, left at 5 - 6am |
the boat I was waiting on ..... |
we bought 3 lobster, at at a cost of $10. or $3.00 per lb. from the captain of the boat, and the buyer cooked it for us .. as we did not have a pot large enough |
okay ... this is the two of the three ... we finished them off too fast ... so good fresh, not like we get at home |
the seagulls are after the bait in board |
we are right beside the beach |
the skipper, added a few sea glass to his collection .... see what I got him hooked into, ha ha |
it is amazing to watch these captains handle their boats, we just watched and where impressed |
when they leave in the dark of 5am, there is a lot of lines to untie |
extra board installed |
lobster in the plastic boxes on the scale, each boat brings in 5,000 lbs a week |
there is a lot of hard work done by these fishermen |
yesterday 3 lobster was not enough, so we bought 6 today, cost $24.00 |
we brought them back to the boat in one of our pails, with ice |
the harbour master, lent us a pot for cooking the lobster, 3 at a time .. when the pot arrived it was full of fresh veggies out of his garden .. every one is so kind and thoughtful |
out of the hot boiling salted water into the cold salted water |
the next 3 go in for the 15 minutes |
the foam padding out to dry in the cockpit |
the survival suits also needed, drying |
another front coming thru |
the lightening and thunder missed us and went to the east .. |
taking time out |
the next day Saturday, only about 1/3 of the boats went out to check the traps ... we talked to some when they came back in and they said it was nasty on the water |
we probably should of bought more lobster on Saturday, cause we did not realize that the fishermen agreement is that no one fishes on Sunday ... |
