August 18 - 19, 2013 .. Mahone Bay (Town) and Lunenburg

a Mayday in Mahone Bay, .. note red bouy on right and sailboat on left, heading out of the harbour ... and Coast Guard coming to rescue in the middle ... always follow the rules of the water ... this sailboat did not keep the red bouy to the Port heading out and ran aground on the reef .. the tide was still going out and we saw his water line rise a foot out of the water....

Joe and I said if this was us we would stay put and wait the 4 hours, so we would slowly drift off, with the rising tide ... the Captain decided to be hoisted off the rocks, the halyard to the mast pulled the boat on to it's side and slowly it got off ... the sailboat returned to the harbour, and I guess there was no leaks so it headed out again .. this time on the right side of the bouy ... meaning Red to the Left (Port), going out  !!!

earlier in the day Modaki moved about 500 ft over to a mooring ball that belongs to Peter Redden, he is a friend of Pauline Dickison (Windbag blew to green) ... Peter and friend Gregg Little out for a beautiful sail in their Catboat .. we understand another Catboat is in the making too

Joe and I dinghy to town again, and to our surprise a flee market ... thank goodness we have a boat and can't bring anything big back with us ... there was so many treasures .. records too for Joe

the town hall

this shop had beautiful original art, clothes and our very own Ann Wylie's ear rings (Markdale), I loved the coloured trim ... it drew you to this shop ... this is right across from Jo-Ann's Deli-Market-Bake Shop- Cafe-Jammery .... Joe and I had to head back to Jo-Ann's again for coffee and sweet bread ... we will see you again Jo-Ann when we return in a week or so ....

MODAKI, (teal sail cover) in the centre on Peter and Mary's mooring ball ... just out side their  home

this is a mat that Mary hooked,  about 8 ft by 4 ft .. so nice

thank you all, Mary's dad, Mary Doig, Peter Redden, and Gregg Little, and of course RUBY !!!

this is a replica of the 12 metre, Canada Cup boat that Derek Hatfield sailed ... this little guy has him own mooring ball ..

a great day, full of lots of new friends and exploring Mahone Bay, (the town)

August 19, heading into Lunenburg, Nova Scotia ... a dream of mine !!!  and here I am

motoring into the harbour, it is always an adventure to see where we are to go, a new place and where to anchor for the night !!!

a charter sailboat leaving with lots of tourists aboard

the skipper dropping the anchor

I can hardly wait to explore

our day ... 3.5 hours wind on the nose (usual)  15 km  cold on the ocean and white caps .. in the Bay of Mahone, no wind, hot and sunny ...
