August 4, 2013 car cruising to Sherbrook, Nova Scotia

we were offered the use of a car to go to Sherbrook, to provision and view the Village.  This is some of the houses that are in the Village, we understand it will take a couple of hours to walk the complete site.

this is the Court House ...
we did not do the tour, but we went to the Mill that cut all the wood for the reconstruction of the Village.

this is a water powered mill

logs are collected above the mill

we walked back on a trail to the lake to see the beginning of the log voyage down the shute.

on the way we came across this house that had a fantastic glass window, that was in a circle, all the windows were original ... I will have to google how this spiral glass pane is made.

back to the mill

on the lower part of the mill is all the wooden wheels and belts, running the saw up above

a couple of pictures of the up and down blade cutting pine and spruce logs

an old phone .. we had one similar  growing up in Paisley

across the road is the Stamp Mill ...

what is a Stamp Mill you ask .......  there was gold in these hills, and they stamped it into bricks and shipped out by boat ...  we asked about security for the bars of gold, and were told back then gold was not worth that much

lots of old machinery

Chester's car he lent us for the day.  Chester told us, he comes to work at 10 am and leaves after 7pm, and the car sits there all day ...   "why not let you go and explore".

Chester, he has been working at Liscomb Lodge for 36 years, and he also runs the tour boat, 4 - 5 times a day, for one hour trips to tell of the History of the area ... he also helped out our sailing friends on KIANDA, and lent his car last year , so Jess could take Dave to the hospital , with back problems !!! a fantastic man !!!!

we also met "Tigress" , Henry and Marie, from Wolfville, Nova Scotia.  They had to extend there anniversary , because of engine problems, and waiting out parts to arrive on a holiday weekend.
Thanks Henry for getting Joe's phone off "freeze mode".  Lots of good talks in the pool and hot tub too. We hope you can continue your adventure to the Bras d/Or Lakes. See you again I hope.

And "Sweet Breeze", Curtis Bush (blue shirt),  Curt left Deluth, Minnesota , June 9, 2013 and is heading to Maine, USA .. single handed .. to sell his beautiful sailboat (there is another waiting to be bought back home) .. he has already travelled 2,500 miles this year.  So he has travelled thru Lake Superior, the North Channel, Lake Huron, Detroit River, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, St. Lawrence, Northumberland Straight, Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, and we missed him here in Halifax by one day .....  lets keep in touch ... we are looking forward to your book about this trip.

Just a note Joe and I left Shediac, New Brunswick on June 21, 2013, and have travelled 800 km so far.

Afar cry from "Sweet Breeze" s journey !!!!?
