August 8, 2013 ... moved to downtown Halifax Sackville Wharf

we motored around from the North West arm to down town Halifax

cranes loading container ships

as we came around the corner we could see this Cruise ship, when we were on land, the ship towered above the buildings at the dock ... OMG this is big

staying tuned into Channel 12, Halifax Traffic Control , we found out that the Cruise Ship was lowering life rafts and testing them out ... we got to see it first hand ...

this is George Island, we understand that there is a complete fort underground ... it is only open a few times a year, and tickets are always sold out...
If an attack happened  and the enemy got thru McNabb Island, this fort would be the next to defend Halifax.

Theodore, taking tourists for a water tour

we had our own reservation slip, right down town

you can't much closer to Halifax than this !!!

the wave, that all kids of all sizes climb and slide down ... some even surf !!!!

MODAKI, beside HMCS Sackville, the last of the 269 corvettes built by the Allies during the WW II, and the last of the 123 corvettes that served in the Royal Canadian Navy.  we toured her the next day.

down town shots

some really nice boats in here

we walked the Historic Properties

beautifully restored

all the way from Ontario, it was hard for us to find our banks, Joe's is Scotia Bank ... what do we stumble upon but the "First Bank" of all the Bank of Nova Scotia's ...

we walk in and are stunned at the architecture,  the size and the detail, in marble, ceiling tiles, etc.

original table and bench beside

the doors are marble all  around with pewter and brass sculptures,  we had a very nice teller approach us and asked if we wanted a tour ....  and do we want to go to the vaults below .... what the heck !! what bank asks you that ????    any way, some very smart people positioned the vault, with a 2 foot  wide hall all around the volt, so if any one wanted to dig tunnels to the vault they got the space before the vault.  There is also all original woodwork and individual rooms below  to count your millions !!

this is about 6 ft diameter, all pewter  in the floor

this is a tile mosaic above one of the doors

a statue in memory of the Navy Men

there is lots of street musicians, the cruise ship is in so tons of people on the wharf

a training vessel from Maine

lots of interesting vessels in the harbour
