Aug 4/12 Fjord du Saguengy - Beluga whales - cliffs - Russel Bros, Owen Sound - and to top off tonight Karioke at the marina

  • at Tadoussac, the tide was still going down and starfish climbing up a rock to see a friend
  • sailboat leaving just in time to get around docks
  • no picture, but Joe saw the dorsal fin and back of a whale just inside harbour, behind our boat at dock
  • the mouth of Saguenay, a line of water coming towards us .... we still can't figure it out, it was wind driven, or currant driven, or wide driven .. anyway we had no problem
  • the ferries cross every 15 min ... but in our case it was 7 min.
  • sailing up the Saguenay with high hills and villages
  • Saguenay region has been designated as parkland and the Province of Quebec is dedicated to its preservation and development
  • an interesting thing .... the depth of the Saguenay is 300 meters and if the St. Lawrence ran dry, the Saguenay would still contain water to a depth of 180 meters
  • look out for floating logs, this one was small .. we saw 12 - 15 foot ones
  • Beluga feeding grounds ... you have to stay 400 meters away from them ... if you are lucky they swim to you ... of course you have to have your motor off
  • I am hoping on our return down the Fjord that we will get closer pictures, but this is so special to see them in there natural habitat
  • sailing on to our marina Anse Saint-Jean ... another great marina ... the wind that was to come tonight is now forcasted for tomorrow night
  • the village is far from here, but there is a small gift shop across the road and two restaurants ...
  • the gift shop had top quality Quebec artisans works ... and I know of two members of our family that got gifts from here !!!
  • posting the blog and listening to Karioke at the marina ....  hey weather is good, no bugs and people are really, really friendly
  • I FORGOT AGAIN    the water temp at Tadoussac was 8.9 and up Fjoyd is 20.1  , just can't figure that out
  • OH YEA,  everyone speaks French, as they have since July 20/12 ... the young female marina officer here said, I like you because I can practice my English with you
  • we would like to hear from our friends back home, you can email us
  • at modaki@rogers.com
