July 10/12

July 10/12

Hay Bay to Picton and on the Amherst Island

JOE, has figured out the following .... in 15 days

we have gone 300 miles
sailed 5 hours
motored  72 hours
used 114.3 litres of diesel so far from Owen Sound to Picton

We had a good night sleep, no wind, some mosquitoes.  Up and off the hook at 9:30.  We put the sails up but there was no wind again, so motored 1 1/2 hours
into Picton.   We went to the town marina and pumped out, got diesel and water.
We moved the boat to the wall and then went to town.
Joe and I have decided that we have to come back to Picton, it has so many interesting stores and lots of history.
At 3:30 we left Picton with sails up again .. but it was hit and miss with the wind for the first couple of hours.
Normally I don't prep meals while underway, but it was 6:30 and we still had another few hours to get to our anchorage.
I prepared and Joe did the cooking, and we ate in the cockpit while sailing
reasonably flat ..... we should of know something would happen.
Well a gap appeared on our starboard side, (main land disappeared - then open water and then Amherst Island a bit further on)
The wind thru this opening was a bit stronger that we realized ... we nearly wore our supper .. and the pots and pans and open containers below, slipped and slided everywhere ....  oh brother !!!

Once under control we had a great sail at 5.5 - 6 knots on the beam.

This was the first time in 150 ft of water since leaving Owen Sound.
We passed a Lennox Generating Station, Lafarge Canada, and Millhaven
Penitentiary.
We tried to anchor in 12 feet of water, but there was too many weeds and dragged.
So we moved back into 16 feet and it took the first time.

Tidied up and had popcorn and bed.
