We gave a radio call to the St. Peter's Lock, when we left the marina, and by the time we got to the
bridge, it was swinging for us ... they said to us motor slowly and we will drive back and grab your lines .. and that is what happened .. (if they are not there you have to climb up the wall and tie off to bollards, that are 10 ft. from the wall.
we asked if the bridge in the Lennox Passage was opening and we were told that it was, ... so we decided to take the short cut, one hour, compared to 4 hours going on the outside.
so we took our time
when we wound our way around all the sand spits, and shoals, and approached the bridge, 2 hours from the locks, Joe radioed and got no response, circled in a tight circle to avoid the shallows. We had a phone number, so Joe called, and a lady answered (not bridge operator). She said that it was not to open, until 7pm (we are now 2:30), and maybe not then, so you can wait until the morning then. WHAT THE HECK !!!! we politely asked were should we anchor until that time ... she said she did not know the water and could not help us out !!!! We discussed the situation and decided to back tract and take the outside route ... The Skipper does not usually get upset, but he knew that we would have to find an anchorage, and there is only a few on the outside.
the 1974 Yanmar sure came thru for us ... wind right on the nose and 3 ft waves to boot .. enjoy !!
5 hours later and at 7PM
behind Jerseyman Island, Arichat Harbour
note the left side of top black line, is the bridge that would not open, and were we had to go for
a safe anchorage for the night .... NO Comment !!!
Arichat Harbour is one of the oldest harbours in Nova Scotia, next time we will explore the town
lots of Jelly Fish, not too sure I will go swimming
note the half moon, ha ha
good night !!!!!
