July 9, 2013 --- to Maskells Harbour (our favourite anchorage so far)

Bras d'Or Lake, is full of islands, coves, harbours about every 1/2 hour apart

another forestry lesson, this is damage by the Spruce Bud Worm (brown/dead trees)

this house had a large parcel of trees removed, so they had a better view,  trees
push up to the left of the picture.

we checked out another possible anchorage, at Pellier Harbour, were
we saw 2 Bald Eagles

approaching the Barra Strait, town of Iona and Grand Narrows
St. Columbia Church in Iona, can be seen for miles

gypsum cliffs ... it was about here that the motor, started to sputter and hesitate.  We slowed down, shut the motor off, back on, turned around, and continued

we had to radio the Barra Straite Bridge to have it opened for us, and the railway bridge too

approaching ...

the opening is only 100 ft wide ... I was surprised that it does not open all the way up.  A few days ago, only one side of the bridge opened and it was use at your own risk.  There is no way I would pass if
only one side opened.  There is a currant here too.

the railway bridge open

here we go ...

Joe had us straight in the middle ...

I can breathe now, we made it ...

closing behind us ...

the traffic was only stopped for about 5 minutes ... most of the people get out of their cars and
watch us go through
once past the bridge, the motor acted up again, slowing us down and hesitating ... there was wind
and it was right on the nose and in the direction that we wanted to head.  Slowly we limped into Maskells Harbour, getting our selves prepared to change the fuel filter.

we made it, to our next anchorage

4 1/2 hours and 17.4 miles

lots of evidence of Spruce Bud Worm

Skipper Joe got right to work and after 3 hours of labour, we had both fuel filters changed and bled, and the motor ran smoothly ... and yes the filter was clogged

we took a dinghy ride before supper and scouted out the anchorage

I caught a Kingfisher in this picture ... note the funny angle to the walls on this shed

a mini flowerpot

no sea glass here

this jelly fish, didn't look very healthy

a farmers field close by

sweet peas in bloom every where

oyster shell

the other side of the harbour had these strange rock formations

moss growing on the trees

it was posted private property in this area

there we are, the only boat at anchor here

there was a few Bald Eagles in the area

we didn't encourage this guy to stick around
