note fishing boats stern to dock .. it was raining so hard, that we actually liked it, because we spent most of the day cleaning off the salt from the boat, so this was the rinse cycle ... the winds were 25 gusting to 40 knots ... in Souris they are in their highest and lowest tides 6 feet.
it rained so hard that the water was pouring off the parking lot into the harbour
this morning we did a road adventure, thank you to Eric the Marina Manager ... he gave us the keys of his truck for two days to explore the island ... we decided to stay in this region which is East Coastal, there is too much to see in such a short time ... first place we stopped at was Fire and Water, Teri Hall, as it turned out, she is one of the Face Book sites I am a friend with .. these are some of her collection of sea glass, that are rare to find.
Red, yellow, orange, black the rarest
she even showed us a piece of clear glass that had a minnow in it .. what the heck !!!!
Teri Hall is one of the judges in this years festival ... Teri also teaches classes to make your own jewellery.
there is lots of cedar shake homes, left to weather .. in other parts of the Maritimes they are painted every colour of the rainbow.
Cardigan, had a farmers market in the old Railroad House, lots of freshly made bread, veggies, twig furniture, cheese, knitting, quilts.
then to Georgetown
fisherman's huts to store traps and gear
everyone painted the colour of their markers
Montague, to check out the marina ... do not enter when the tide is going out !!!, what a current running.
next was across the island to the North East to St. Peters and Greenwich National Park ... hey no fees to go to the red sand beach !!!
well this picture is of white sand,... but there is red sand closer to the water .. it is a tough life being a tree on PEI.
The beaches are huge here and not too many people on this one
the boardwalk kept you off he wild roses, dune grasses, etc.
a lookout
we just had to find another road to the ocean .. this one was so different, there was sand up to this one foot pile of red rocks .. no sea glass !!
this house was so magnificent ... in the middle of no where ... what happens here in the middle of the winter ???
some lively crabs
the left over of a storm and a lobster pot washes to shore ... there was a lobster in parts near by
the next place we visited was Naufrage, this was a very unusual harbour, there was a long channel for the fishing boats to pass thru, and a bridge for them to go under ... we were there at mid tide and there was a sandbar at the entrance of channel and we are not too sure how the boats with antennas passed under the bridge. The fisherman here have to deal with so many variables, especially on this coast.
a old lobster trap turned into a chair
back at the boat, by 6pm and the tide coming up again ... we walk 5 minutes away, to a old dump and sea glass paradise !!!
our treasures for today ...at the bottom of picture a glass handle of pitcher , and two marbles, those were our most exciting pieces and we met a lady and her dog on the beach, she came with a small garden trowel, we talked as we picked up pieces, she has been gathering for a few years now and said she has jars full of sea glass .. by the end of your hour on the beach together she emptied her pockets and gave us what she found, which is the other pieces in the picture, some pottery pieces ... a glass button .. , blue pieces, and green glass from a dish or bowl ... most definitely you get an eye for this collecting. Maritime people are very generous !!!!
